Brutal silence - Press Release:

This marks the 10th exhibition of Terrence Kelleman’s work at CAVE. It is the first exhibition in a series of experimental videos created by Kelleman with the vintage Port-a-Pak video technology. Since 1997, CAVE has persisted in its effort to create access to a diversity of ideas and artistic expression. Guided by Shige Moriya, director and resident artist, CAVE is supported by other resident artists such as Nayoki, Zana Wimmer, and musician Kenta Nagai.

A majority of the exhibition consists of a new series of long exposure photographs where Kelleman uses his body as brush, subject and inspiration. The imagery is a melding of expressionistic line with distorted and torn figurative images, alluding to the drawings of Antonin Artaud. Kelleman seeks out the rhythms and gestures that carry his body in space, un-scripted and flowing, in much the same way that Jackson Pollock sought out the rhythm of a painting. Kelleman’s work stabs and strikes at reality, representation and the body itself, and resolves itself in a state between reverence and disdain.
